Don't You Want to be Free? is an art project by British photographer Johnny Green, shot between 2008 and 2012 and exhibited at Lauderdale House in London in April and May of 2013.
The show consisted of 30 photographs hung in the Lower Gallery and Entrance Hall of the house. During the opening and closing parties, screenings of Don’t You Want to be Free? (47’11) took place.
The film, produced with Fabiola Simonetti, features 527 photographs shot between 2008 and 2012, mixed across twelve songs.
The work investigates notions of freedom and the ties that connect us with others, as well as exploring our own individual, collective and social consciousness.
The exhibition arose after gaining success in Lauderdale House’s Annual Photographic Prize in 2012, in which Green won both the open category and overall award.
The film was produced in 2013 and remixed in 2015 by Johnny Green & Fabiola Simonetti. All music copyright lies with the song's creator(s) or third parties.
Johnny Green retains the copyright to most of the photographs in Don't You Want to be Free? except for some owned by the Press Association.
